Message in a box

So I was sitting behind this dude in class and noticed this funny quote on his shirt.

"There is either the wisest madman or the maddest wise man in the world."

Dreamer

I have been reading Oriah Mountain Dreamer's The Invitation, a very deep and romantic piece.

"...I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love,
for your dream, for the adventure of being alive...
I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow,
if you have been opened by life's betrayals or have become shriveled and closed
from fear of further pain! I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own,
without moving to hide it or fade it, or fix it...
I want to know if you can see beauty even when its not pretty, every day,
and if you can source your own life from its presence...
Do not touch me and keep your soul out of your fingertips...Die into me or
don't come to me at all..."

Suppose I say Summer, write the word "hummingbird"
put it in an envelope, take it down the hill,
to the box.
When you open my letter you will recall those days and
how much, just how much I love you.

Hummingbird,
Raymond Carver
